New IMC donation and Rapid Response systems goes live

International Medical Corps UK is a global, humanitarian, non-profit organisation dedicated to saving lives and relieving suffering through health care training and relief and development programmes.

Byte Art have been helping IMC with their digital strategy for over three years including creating their current website and were asked to help with two pressing problems.

The first was that the current method of accepting online donations using their current payment service provider was extremely limited and ineffective. We helped them move to a more flexible provider and created a system which dramatically boosts and targets donations while taking advantage of the UK government's Gift-Aid tax system.

The second problem was that the very nature of the emergencies the IMC were created to deal with meant that it was critical they could publicise the issue and collect donations within hours (or even minutes). We created a "rapid response" system which allows them to very quickly create and launch appeal micro-sites totally in-house which can then be used in conjunction with targeted online advertising.

Byte Art have today been commissioned by the Islington branch of the Conservative Party to plan, create and run all digital communications for their council and parliamentary campaigns for the 2010 elections. New Ryness Site Goes Live

Byte Art have today launched the new consumer website for Ryness the famous national chain of lighting and electrical stores.

- "Our website had been running for several years" said managing director James Shortridge "and we had built and run it all mainly in-house but we need a dedicated agency who could help update and migrate our website systems."

As the sole specialist retailer of light bulbs (with over 1000 types in stock and a promise to find any type that their customers want) and lighting in London their systems were mission critical and a careful project plan was designed and ahead to ensure the minimum of project down-time as the sites were migrated in part between the old legacy servers (running Apache) and the new ones. A test-bed suite was set-up to ensure any compatibility problems would be ironed out well in advance of the move. A series of instructions and documents were created to allow Ryness's in-house IT team to easily manage and configure the sites in future.

"We have been very impressed with their skill-set and project management" said James Shortridge. "Byte Art were extremely efficient in migrating our e-commerce systems".

Jersey man Trevor Collenette has been freed unconditionally by the authorities in Gibraltar.
Mr Collenette, 51, was held for more than 50 days after customs found cocaine worth �8m on the yacht he was sailing with three others.

Trevor Collenette, a Jerseyman, who is our close friend of 40 years, is a retired banker with over 30 years service with Lloyds TSB. He retired at 50 to enjoy his passion for sailing and has been undertaking courses and gaining experience with crew recruitment companies who specialise in the delivery of yachts. He answered an advertisement placed by John Kelway (Skipper) through web- based yacht crew agency "Crewseekers" to help crew "Gin", a yacht registered to a Gibraltar company, Velvet Sea Yachting Limited, which is understood to be owned by a Croatian National of whom Trevor had no prior relationship prior to his arrival in St Lucia. Under skipper, John Kelway, the crew, Trevor Collenette (First Mate), Martin Genocchio and Kathryn Burman, who had only met for the first time on 29 April at Gatwick Airport, London, set sail on 2 May 2007 for Gibraltar. They arrived in Gibraltar on 4 June and the yacht was searched by customs but in the early hours of 5th June, Gibraltar Customs effected a second search apparently going straight to a false, fibreglassed compartment that contained 183 slabs of cocaine valued at £8million. The crew were arrested and accused of possession, possession with intent to supply and importation of drugs. They face life imprisonment if convicted. Trevor's close friends of 40 years, Steven Hunt, who is Chairman of Jersey Crimestoppers, Advocate Christopher Renouf, a lawyer, Graham Ireson and Alan Eaton, both company directors, believe that Trevor is innocent and that he is the victim of an orchestrated drugs smuggling. Byte Art are helping to support the appeal by designing, building and hosting the website for no charge.

Byte Art has flown the flag for the Channel Island's Internet industry by exhibiting a stand showcasing the benefits of using the islands as an online base this Summer at a major London event. The Internet World 2005 show at Earl's Court, London, is Europe's premier event for those doing business online and proved a resounding success for the Byte Art team for their third year of exhibiting. Over 100,000 visitors passed through the doors of Earl's Court, London and Byte Art's stand attracted a constant flow of interest. During the show Byte Art's Simon Bone gave a half hour seminar entitled "Channel Islands - the Offshore/Online e-Commerce Advantage". The talk covered areas such as infrastructure, education, technical expertise and fiscal advantages. Various case studies of successful local companies trading online were also provided as well as the many e-commerce specifics. Support material for the presentation was kindly provide by the e-business team from Commerce and Employment and Jo Reeve was on hand to answer audience questions at the end. 'As with the last 2 year it's been an extremely busy show,' said Byte Art production director Simon Bone. 'We were literally flooded with enquiries from companies and individuals wanting to know about our services how to replicate the success of other Island based businesses. It shows that the island's Internet Industry is widely perceived as extremely competitive and amongst the best in the world' "We are supportive of Byte Art's attendance at Internet World, which provides an ideal showcase for promoting the full range of services that they offer" said Jo Reeve, e-Business Development Executive for the Commerce and Employment Department. Animal Kingdom has launched a new e-commerce site to sell worming tablets and medication for horses. www.wormerworld.com developed by Byte Art Jersey, allows customers to browse through the products and view detailed information about them along with pictures of the products before adding them to a shopping cart.

The Internet World show at Earl's Court proved a resounding success for the Byte Art team.
The agency's stand was well visited over the three days of the show, with numerous enquiries across its core services of web design, content management systems and e-commerce solutions.
As a result of discussions at the event, Byte Art now has a list of several potentially large scale contracts. It also hopes to further expand its presence in London.
'As always, it's a question of converting these contacts into contracts, but if we do secure one of the larger potential clients, it's going to be a very busy summer,' said marketing manager Magnus Buchanan.

The one-day event, held at the Beau Sejour centre on 11 June, featured all the island's top technology firms.

Meanwhile, marketing manager Magnus Buchanan presented a seminar on Internet marketing on behalf of sister agency Linesnapper.
The keynote speaker for the day was Andrew Neil, former editor of the Sunday Times.
Mr Neil stressed the importance of a more focussed approach to business in an period of economic downturn which he described as the 'New Stagnation.'
'The madness of the Internet boom of the Nineties will not come again for the forseeable future - for some of us, it will not come in our lifetime,' said Mr Neil.
'But just like the booms before it, such as the explosive growths of the railways, the motor car and the personal computer - the technology will remain after the boom and become an integral part of the way we do business.'
As part of the day, the Byte Art team was also introduced to Guernsey's Lieutenant Governor Sir John Foley, who said he had enjoyed his discussion with the agency about its progress since its formation in 1997.

An aquatic success with viral marketing

Flash-based online game Anne Ripples, promoted through viral marketing, has received more than 5,000 visits in less than a week.
The game was launched through the distribution of 250 fliers at Internet World in Earl's Court, London.
Linesnapper consultant Edward Kinnersly said that it was a good indication of the potential of viral marketing.
'I'm satisfied with the result - considering the minimal publicity we gave the site, word has spread quickly.'
'It shows that in conjunction with more traditional advertising approaches, online viral marketing does have a lot to offer for more mainstream companies.'
The anneripples.co.uk game (Anne Ripples is an anagram of Linesnapper, Byte Art's sister agency for online promotion) is a space invaders variant, with aquatic graphics.
The game was written and launched within one day as a viral marketing experiment. Last year's online promotion jerseysucks.com has now received more than 23,000 visits.
It received more than 10,000 of these hits in its first three days online.

Byte Art Designer Nominated For Apprentice of The Year Award

Multimedia design apprentice Craig Le Lerre has been nominated for the Guernsey Apprentice of the Year award.
Craig, 20, who has worked for Byte Art for the last 18 months, has been nominated for his outstanding contributions as an apprentice to the company's design portfolio over the last 12 months.
His contribution has included assisting on work involving some of the company's most pretigious clients, including Carey Olsen Advocates and Aurigny Air Services.
Production director Simon Bone said: 'I've been extremely happy with Craig's progress this year - he's developed into an engaging talent and an excellent team player for one so young. I'm pleased to be able to put him forward for this award.'
Craig is currently studying part-time for an HND in Graphic Design at the College of Further Education, where his designs have been shortlisted to be included in the College's end-of-year show.
'I'm delighted to be up for this award,' said Craig, who has not taken a sick day since he joined the company.
'I think I must be one of the only web design apprentices on the island so it's great to get recognition,' he said.
The awards ceremony for Apprentices of the Year will take place on Thursday 19 June.

Byte Art launch fourth version of website

Byte Art has launched the fourth version of its own website.

And a fifth version is already in the pipeline.

'It's simply a question of the company moving with the times - and trying to reflect the quality that we produce in our clients' websites in our own backyard,' says Simon Bone, Byte Art's production director.

The company has spent the last few months busy designing websites for such other market leaders in the Channel Islands as Aurigny Air Services, Carey Olsen and the Guernsey Training Agency.

This has delayed the unveiling of Byte Art's fourth version of its website, which features a more visually attractive interface, utilising more graphics and motion in its presentation.

'We wanted to make the site more of an experience for visitors rather than simply an information gathering and reference point,' explains applications developer Richard Le Poidevin.

Among other new features, it also allows visitors to sign up to receive a regular e-newsletter and features a more frequently updated news section.

'We're busy as a agency right now and I think that the new design of the BA site better reflects that - we're hoping to give visitors more reasons to come back and keep an eye on what we're up to,' said Richard.

However, even this new site will soon be superseded by a fifth version whose new features are at present 'under wraps' at the company.

'It was important for the company to get a new version out there while we had time between our various contracts. However, there are still some extra features that we'd like on the site to better showcase our abilities and web solutions,' says Richard.

Fans of the company's work should keep their eyes peeled for the new fifth version of the site sometime later in the summer.
