Database Development

Databases are the reasons we have exciting and dynamic online applications. Without their ability to quickly store, process and display information we wouldn’t be able to do half the things we are used to on the Web. As a result database development is key to most of the work we do here at Byte Art.

We’ve worked with a large number of different systems (SQL Server, Access, MySQL, PostgreSql, DB2, Oracle 9…) an almost all modern database management systems (DBMS's) use a common language called Structured Query Language (SQL, pronounced "sequel") as a means to add, modify and retrieve information. All our developers are fluent in this (really, we are quite a sad lot!) as well as more system specific dialects like Transact SQL (for Microsoft SQL Server) or PL/SQL (for Oracle).

For larger development projects we also create system specification and documentation using Unified Modelling Language (UML). This is an industry-standard language for simplifying the complex process of software design by using “blueprints” for software construction and by helping to represent systems more by task and problem than by actual technology.
