For the web browser, it can be used to create small applications, or applets that download with a web page and provide functionality and speed that would normally not be available with DHTML.
On the server-side, Java 'Servlets' and Java Server Pages (JSP) can be used to create powerful enterprise website applications with features such as 'Just In Time' compilation and Java 'Beans'.
